If the year 2021 promises to be a first step towards the generalization of foldable smartphones, that of Apple would not see the light of day before 2023.
Apple is not in the habit of rushing headlong into new markets, but on the contrary prefers to take its time to analyze the failures and the mistakes not to be made. It is still this strategy that the company intends to follow for new generation smartphones.
Take advantage of competitors' mistakes
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his expertise in the Apple company and his often correct predictions, this time says the company is planning a foldable iPhone by 2023.
According to the specialized blog iMore which reports the information, Kuo estimates that once unfolded, the device would present a slab between 7.5 and 8 inches. The exact choice of this diagonal would depend on the potential problems encountered by the manufacturers who have already embarked on the adventure.
The analyst adds that no production has been started, which suggests that Apple would not be really satisfied with its work in progress.
This year, Google, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo should enter this market in the second half of the year and join Samsung, Microsoft, Motorola and Huawei. We imagine that the ergonomics, the production line as well as the durability of these products will be scrutinized by Apple.
Rumors that are confirmed
This isn't the first time we've heard of foldable iPhones. At the beginning of January we reported that Apple wanted to evaluate the experience of iOS on this kind of smartphones.
According to the information, reported by leaker Jon Prosser, the Cupertino company would test a flap-type iPhone, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip , as well as a second that unfolds horizontally, like the Microsoft Surface Duo. These two models would be produced by Foxconn.
The tests currently carried out would be based on foldable OLED screens provided by Samsung Display. We also learned that Apple should begin production of 3 nm chips in 2022. If the company continues the numbering of its models, the iPhone 14 would thus introduce a new finesse of engraving while the iPhone 15 would invite itself on the foldable screens market.
