The solution to speaker problems on your Mac

Mac computers are not perfect and can have problems with some of their components such as speakers. In this article we tell you how you can solve this specific failure.

Check that your Mac detects the speakers

Faced with these problems with the internal speakers of the Mac, you should first focus on finding out if the computer detects them correctly. In this way you can begin to know if the problem resides in the hardware itself or in the software since if it is not detected it is very possible that it is a simple factory fault or that they have been disconnected due to a blow or misuse. To be able to carry out this check, you simply have to perform the different steps on your computer:

  • Enter the System Preferences.
  • Access the Sound section.
  • In the upper tabs choose the one for 'Exit'.
  • Locate the integrated speakers that should appear in the list that will be loaded.

In the event that it does not appear, it is very likely that the problem is in the hardware or that it is simply left in a fright due to the operating system as we will comment below. If, on the other hand, it appears reflected in the list, you must click on it and in the lower part adjust the output volume regulator by moving it to the right to test if it sounds again. Another aspect to take into account is the silence box that obviously must be unchecked so that it can function correctly.

Remove all accessories

When some accessories are connected to the ports of the Mac you can end up dulling the sound through the built-in speakers. For example, by connecting headphones through the 3.5 mm jack or a simple HDMI cable, the audio output can be switched automatically. Although it may seem totally obvious at times it does not fall off and the problem is related to the speakers themselves.

To be able to solve it, disconnect all the accessories that you have connected via cable and also check the sound outputs that you have selected. You can do it in the upper toolbar in the upper left corner by clicking on the speaker icon and choosing the specific source from the list.

Install the latest update

We always repeat that it is very important to have all the software updates that come out installed on the Mac. It must be taken into account that bugs can unfortunately cause the computer not to finish detecting the speakers or simply cause it to silence them without any kind of reason even if you see them to work correctly.

To be able to check that you have all the updates installed, you simply have to enter the system preferences and in the updates section it will appear if you are in the latest version. In the case of being in a beta, you should keep in mind that it is very likely that there may be some kind of relationship.

Resort to reinstalling the software

Many of the problems that can occur on a Mac can be solved without going through Apple's technical service. This is achieved by restoring the operating system by deleting all the files on the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system from scratch, to start over. Most bugs or corrupted files are eliminated with this procedure. The problem is that in order for it to work correctly you should avoid restoring files with a backup, but you will have to store them in the cloud to avoid dragging the corrupted files.

Contact Apple

If none of this has worked correctly, you will have to go to Apple itself to diagnose the problem. It is very likely that they will have to replace the specific part to make it work again, being a repair that can be covered by the guarantee without any problem without paying the price of this. In the event that the failure was due to misuse of the device, you must overcome that you will have to pay for the repair.
