The browser of the search engine giant Google is by far the most popular program of its kind. Chrome is also regularly supplied with updates, previously there was a regular version every six weeks. But the frequency will be increased, because in the future there will be a new one for four weeks.
Make four out of six
Google writes in a blog post that they have been actively using the six-week cycle for more than a decade and that this is how they regularly provide users with security, stability, speed and simplicity as part of updates. Since then, however, the developers have improved the testing and publishing process and have implemented security updates every two weeks, according to Google.
Alex Mineer, Technical Program Manager, Chrome Operations added: "That's why we're excited to announce that Chrome plans to release a new milestone release every four weeks, starting with Chrome 94 in the third quarter of 2021."
Extended stable version is added
In addition, a new option called Extended Stable will be introduced, with a new version every eight weeks. This is primarily intended for company users, i.e. all those who need a little more time to manage updates.
Security updates for Extended Stable are released every two weeks to address important issues. However, these updates do not contain any new features or all of the security fixes that the four-week option will receive.
Chrome OS users can also expect corresponding support for several stable releases, and admins of Chrome OS devices will receive a corresponding announcement in the next few months, according to Google.
