Instagram

Instagram is now focusing on the Direct Messages function for the toughening of its measures and the launch of new controls to mitigate situations of abuse that have occurred on the platform. The company builds on the successful experience of measures that were applied some time ago against abuse in the comments. This change has helped Instagram dramatically reduce the number of offensive comments.

The company acknowledges that there are currently many situations of abuse in direct messages which are more difficult to deal with than in comments as MDs are for private communications and Instagram does not use technologies to proactively detect situations of abuse.

Regarding the toughening of measures on direct messages, instead of temporarily prohibiting the use of the function to those who break the rules, they will now directly deactivate the respective accounts.

Equalize controls on personal accounts with those of creators and companies

On the other hand, controls, previously exclusive to the accounts of creators and companies, are now beginning to be extended to personal accounts in several countries, with the idea of reaching all users as quickly as possible.

Among other things, these controls allow you to deactivate the receipt of direct messages from untracked accounts.

Users will also be able to turn off tags or mentions of other people they don't know, or even block specific users from whom they don't want to receive direct messages.

Instagram is open for participation with other businesses, football associations, NGOs, governments, parents and educators, online and offline, to combat abuse, and will cooperate with law enforcement authorities "on incitement to hatred and violence ”always within the framework of the law and respect for human rights.
