Windows 10X has a new feature that protects the device and its files in the event of theft. To restore the machine to factory settings, you must now log into the user's Microsoft account. A handy addition for all tablet owners, on which the operating system is also compatible.
Windows 10X is already available for download after it was leaked last week. It didn't take long for many users to get the new version of the operating system. To prove its amazing compatibility , some have even installed it on unusual devices, such as M1 Macs or even old Nokia . But its ability to run on different machines is not its only quality. A new feature has indeed been discovered in the settings of the OS: “ Anti-theft protection ”.
As its name suggests, it is used to protect user data in the event of theft of his machine. For this, it adds an additional step to the manipulation to be carried out to fully restore the machine. As explained on the feature's page, in Windows 10X settings : “Anti-theft protection prevents a third party from restoring your device for reuse. When the protection is activated, it will be necessary to enter your PIN code or the password of your Microsoft account before restoring the factory settings ”.
WINDOWS 10X PROVIDES BETTER PROTECTION FOR PORTABLE DEVICES
While Windows 10X is primarily intended for dual-screen devices , it is also compatible with tablets and all-in-one PCs . This addition from Microsoft is therefore good news for all owners of portable devices, often prone to theft. In addition, the manufacturer has developed a similar functionality on its smartphones.
The latter could thus extend anti-theft protection on the standard version of its operating system. On the other hand, no statement from Microsoft goes, for the moment, in this direction. In the meantime, several videos showing the use of Windows 10X have appeared on the net, especially on the Surface Pro 7 on which it runs perfectly .
