The Canon EOS R5 is finally official, a camera expected especially for those who prefer the contributions of a mirrorless equipment, which incorporates expected novelties and its RAW recording in 8K up to 29.97 fps without cropping. In addition, four of the nine optics that the brand announced for this year are presented, with two new repeaters and a printer.
The new EOS R5 is capable of shooting up to 20 fps 20 electronic shutter (12 fps with the mechanical), maintaining automatic exposure and focus. It also integrates 5-axis image stabilization into the body (In-Body Image Stabilization or IBIS), which allows lenses without a stabilizer (such as the RF 85mm f / 1,2L USM and the RF 28-70mm f / 2L USM) can also be achieved up to 8 stops of stabilization. It also incorporates Bluetooth and WiFi (5 GHz Wi-Fi to be able to share files and use the Camera Connect and EOS Utility apps.
This camera is ambitious, aspiring in a way to a "movie camera" for that video function that we have just highlighted. It meets its own resolution record (in a Canon EOS camera) by exceeding 45 megapixels with its CMOS sensor, DIGIC X processor and RF optics. Other features to highlight are 100% autofocus coverage, with 5,940 selectable AF points, and an ISO from 100 to 51,200, which promise that the sharpness is maintained even in the lowest lighting conditions (being able to focus at -6 EV) .AF can be controlled by touching and dragging thanks to the multi-controller flip on the 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen. In addition to the screen, it integrates a 0.5-inch electronic viewfinder whose image is refreshed at 120 fps, with a resolution of 5.76 million points and promising a realistic vision compared to an optical one.
The EOS E5 also has compatibility with Dual Pixel RAW, being able to correct after capture the focus, the contrast in the background and change the lighting in portraits. As for video news, 12-bit 8K RAW video can be recorded internally without cropping, thus taking advantage of the full width of the sensor. A recording that supports eye and face autofocus (for both people and animals). For its part, 4K recording can be DCI and UHD, at speeds up to 120p (119.88 fps) with 4: 2: 2 10-bit quality.
A recording that allows slow motion in high resolution, without giving up AF. Notably, the R5 's dual slots are compatible with CFexpress and SD UHS II cards. All in a magnesium body that promises to be resistant to the elements. Regarding its cost and availability, the new EOS R5 is already on sale at a price of € 4,599. A price that, as we anticipated, is well above the 2,599 euros that the EOS R cost at the time of its launch:) All in a magnesium body that promises to be resistant to the elements.
