Since it was announced a few months ago we were waiting for the Japanese firm to reveal more details than will be its flagship, the Nikon D6, a full-format SLR for professionals that is presented with three promises: "Decisive power. Faster workflow. Absolute reliability". Indeed, it is a new and emblematic DSLR camera that launches in response to professionals who do not want to leave anything to chance, either to transmit news of great hardness or international sports.
And while there had been a lot of speculation about the sensor and other possible components, two are the aspects that the brand highlights in the Nikon D6: the AF system and connectivity, two aspects certainly important for the professionals targeted by the model and for which an adequate response is to be offered at a time when competition is fierce. When it comes to autofocus, it's Nikon's most powerful system that redefines the industry. The new AF engine is faster than ever. The distribution of 105 full-selection cross sensors has a density coverage of 1.6 higher than the D5, bringing the concept of precision to a new level.
When it comes to connectivity, the Nikon D6 gives professionals the freedom to create and send unrestricted images. This materializes in allowing real-time image transfer with the fastest transfer speeds on the market, which do not slow down while shooting. Workflows have been optimized and there are now more ways to select and prioritize key shots to transfer, which is an advantage for photographers when every second is important. It also incorporates the same sensor as its predecessor, a 21.33 million pixel FX CMOS, which also offers a sensitivity also identical to the previous model: 100–102,400 ISO. In relation to the processor, this is the Expeed 6 that also carries the Nikon D780.
This new chip allows you to raise the firing speed to 14 fps with full AF/AE, better than your predecessor (which stayed at 12) but below the competition. Moreover, the firm highlights its greater possibilities for verifying, selecting and transferring key shots through the crisp and precise 3.2-inch touchscreen and the inclusion of two slots for the fastest cards that exist today. This in a body, of course sealed, and with the same robustness that made the D5 one of the favorite cameras of professionals.
