Instagram doesn't just have admirers. Many criticize him for being too addictive and for presenting a biased physical ideal. And it seems that the service has taken note of the criticisms directed at it.
Instagram is a fantastic service. Being able to share your best photos in just a few clicks and make yourself known to as many people as possible, all with a simple smartphone, it's still something. Except that, the years have passed and the platform is no longer only used by photographers or creatives in search of visibility.
As the app has grown in popularity, it has indeed attracted a whole new audience. Art photos are therefore less numerous and they are increasingly giving way to content created by influencers.
Instagram has many detractors
In itself, this is not a problem. Social platforms have always evolved according to uses and needs.
However, for Instagram, there is still a point that is debated: the image that the platform sends to adolescents.
You may not have missed it, but many influencers are betting on their plastic to seduce new fans. And some do not hesitate to pose in undress to raise the stakes.
Instagram, for its part, is watching and the platform does not hesitate to crack down when users go too far. However, even by censoring the most… inciting photos, the platform is often singled out for its impact on adolescents. Adolescents drunk all the time with people with perfect looks and who can therefore experience a certain discomfort - or discomfort - with their own body… and their own faults.
Three measures to protect teens
To prevent the situation from escaping it, and to reassure its users as well as the public authorities, Instagram has therefore decided to take measures. Earlier this week, during a broadcast hosted by CNN, Facebook's vice president of global affairs announced a series of measures, including one targeting teenagers.
The platform will indeed introduce a monitoring function. When the teenager repeatedly watches harmful content, he will see an alert appear, prompting him to stop and focus on other content.
`Interesting, but that's not all. The man also announced two other measures.
The first will aim to push teenagers not to spend their lives on Instagram. When they are connected for too long, a message will appear to encourage them to take a break. As for the second measure, it targets adults and will allow them to supervise the content that their children watch.
