As you may know, there are plenty of rumors and leaks that Samsung is currently working on a new 200 MP photo sensor . It would be developed in partnership with Olympus , a brand known for its optics and cameras. This sensor should be found on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 , which is expected to be released in the summer of 2021, as well as on the Galaxy S22 Ultra .
However, and according to new revelations from the famous Digital Chat Station leaker, Xiaomi is working on a new smartphone equipped with this 200 MP sensor . According to the insider, it will obviously be the Samsung sensor, which is known for now under the code name S5KGND.
Very little information has leaked out about it, except that this sensor will be quite large (1 / 1.37 ″) and its individual pixels will only measure 0.64 µm . As a reminder, the previous 108 MP sensor from Samsung offers photosites of 0.8 µm. Of course, Samsung intends to abuse once again the “ Pixel Binning ”, a technology which consists in grouping several adjacent pixels in order to increase their size and ultimately improve the image quality.
FAILED DEBUT AT ZTE
This sensor would have two “Pixel Binning” modes, namely a 4-in-1 and a 16-in-1. Finally, it would be able to record videos in 16K . Initially, Samsung's new 200 MP sensor was expected on the ZTE Axon 30 Pro 5G. Finally, it turned out that the Chinese manufacturer preferred to opt for a 64 MP main sensor, also produced by Samsung.
Despite the excellent reputation of Digital Chat Station, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. One thing is certain, however, the 200 MP sensor is not the only Samsung site in the field of photography . In March 2021, the manufacturer presented its new generation of ISOCELL 2.0 sensors .
This technology prevents light leaks between each pixel thanks to a reflective barrier. In this revamped version, Samsung has removed the metal contained in this barrier, in favor of another material that is better optimized and no longer reflects light. The result is less optical loss and better light sensitivity. ISOCELL 2.0 sensors could equip the Galaxy S22.
