Samsung

Samsung has just taken over the number 1 position of the smartphone market in the world. Thanks to the resounding success of the Galaxy S21, the Seoul giant managed to outrun Apple in February 2021. Samsung sold 24 million smartphones last month, against 23 million for its rival.

Driven by the success of the iPhone 12, Apple established itself as the world's number 1 smartphone in the fourth quarter of 2020 . The Californian giant has sold up to 80 million smartphones in three months, up 14.9% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. Apple has thus relegated Samsung to second place on the podium.

At the start of the first quarter of 2021, the Cupertino company continued its momentum by capturing 20.8% of the smartphone market share . According to information shared by Strategy Analytics, the arrival of the Galaxy S21 on the market put an early end to Apple's domination.

THE GAP BETWEEN SAMSUNG AND APPLE HAS NARROWED SIGNIFICANTLY

By capitalizing on this new premium range, Samsung sold a total of 24 million smartphones in February . The South Korean manufacturer now holds 23.1% of the market share in the world. For its part, Apple only sold 23 million iPhones during the same period. Tim Cook's firm still retains 22.2% of the market share.

The gap between the two main manufacturers on the market is therefore particularly small. A few months ago, Samsung still had a comfortable lead over its eternal rival. In the third quarter of 2020, for example, Samsung held 22.7% of the global market share, against 11.8% for Apple. In recent years, the gap between Samsung and Apple has rarely been so narrow.
