Instagram

The Instagram app is currently testing a new feature for its Stories: automatic captioning. A good initiative to make the social network more accessible, especially to people with hearing loss.

According to the first feedback from users, the automatic subtitles offered by Instagram would be quite precise, but it should be noted that the language, the rhythm, the way of speaking or the presence of an accent can be badly taken into account. through closed captioning applications.

Instagram: automatic subtitles soon available for Stories

Instagram will very soon deploy a new feature for its users who publish Stories on the social network. Indeed, as noted by Matt Navarra, who published his discovery on Twitter, a new tool joined the list of available stickers: "  cc captions  " for " closed captions".

It will therefore suffice to place this sticker on his Story, where you want to see the text displayed. As always, it will be possible to customize the font and style of the text, then the application will take care of the rest of the work. That is, automatically caption the video.

Since these are closed captions, Instagram should offer the transcription of the dialogue, but also give the writing indications on the background noises, and the other sounds present in the proposed Story. What does not currently appear in the video proposed by Matt Navarra.

Moreover, none of the users who tested the feature were able to post their Story on Instagram, due to an " internal only  " error message  It is therefore currently a glitch that only a handful of users have been able to access.

A spokesperson for the social network confirmed to Matt Navarra that “  we are always exploring ways for people to express themselves better in Stories. This functionality is not currently being tested publicly  ”. We will therefore have to be patient.
