Telegram climbed to number one in downloads in January 2021, across all platforms. The app is followed by TikTok, which leads all of 2020, and Signal, which also benefited from WhatsApp's communication failure. The latter fell to 5th place, just behind Facebook.

Since the WhatsApp affair, its competitors have stepped up their efforts to encourage users to switch to their platform.
