Samsung unveils in a blog post and a video its new generation of ISOCELL 2.0 sensors which could find its place in the next Galaxy smartphones starting with the GalaxyS22. The technology allows both pixel density and light sensitivity to be increased.
Samsung has just unveiled on its blog the characteristics of its next ISOCELL 2.0 sensor technology which could find a place in the next Galaxy S22 smartphones . Originally, ISOCELL technology, Samsung explains, was developed to prevent light leakage between each pixel by introducing a reflective barrier. This concept has enabled Samsung to deliver photo sensors in 2013 above the competition in its smartphones .
In particular, ISOCELL technology enables a 30% reduction in light pollution between the pixels, as well as an increase in the well effect - resulting in 30% more light compared to conventional sensors . However, as innovative as it is, the first version of ISOCELL sensors had a flaw . The material that acts as a barrier between the pixels was not perfectly reflective, and absorbed a significant amount of light.
THE INNOVATION OF ISOCELL 2.0 IS A BARRIER MATERIAL THAT IS MORE REFLECTIVE BETWEEN THE PIXELS
With ISOCELL 2.0 Samsung integrates a better barrier material between the pixels of its sensors . The technology benefits from the intermediate ISOCELL Plus in which Samsung had already optimized the barrier material, without completely removing its absorbent properties. ISCOELL 2.0 finally incorporates an optimized material that does not contain metal and reflects more light .
“This further reduces optical loss in each pixel and significantly improves light sensitivity, allowing smartphones to produce even more vivid images with less noise,” says Samsung. Who specifies that this technology will allow the manufacturer to create sensors “with even smaller pixels while absorbing more light” and “without compromising the reproduction of vivid colors” .
Samsung concludes: “Light is the most important factor in producing high quality photos, and your smartphone's photo sensor is just the key component in processing that light. By equipping your phone to capture as much light as possible, ISOCELL 2.0 gives you the power to use your smartphone to capture memorable moments with consistently impeccable quality, anywhere and anytime ”.
