Twitter continues to add new features to make its platform more appealing and the social media company is now testing voice DMs.
One of the negative aspects of using text in digital communications is that it does not faithfully reflect the intention of the communicator, having led to misunderstandings on several occasions over time.
For this reason, Twitter is increasingly relying on the use of voice as a form of expression, so that in addition to audio tweets and Twitter spaces, its equivalent to Clubhouse, both in testing, Twitter is also starting to experiment with direct voicemail messages, as announced last fall, from now on in India, Brazil and Japan.
Increase the presence of voice features on Twitter
The idea is very similar to the voicemail messages available on some messaging platforms, where you just need to press and hold a button while recording the voicemail message.
Unlike WhatsApp and the like, Twitter will allow a maximum duration of 140 seconds (a number that can recall the maximum number of characters that existed until the company decided to double down to 280 characters).
This will prevent the recording of long (and annoying) messages that often occur on WhatsApp.
Twitter is already making it clear that this is an experience, and according to Manish Maheshwari, director of Twitter India: “Give people a new way of expressing themselves and help them connect through nuance, emotion. and the empathy that comes from listening to someone's voice. ”
All in all, we should look back at how in recent times Twitter's direct messaging feature has gained new functionality after a long time with nothing new.
There are also calls for direct messages to be end-to-end encrypted, allowing Twitter direct messages to become an alternative means of mobile communication, although we are not sure if the company will heed this suggestion.
Twitter will only allow phones to record as voicemail messages
Of course, voicemail messages can only be recorded from the Twitter app on Android and iOS, allowing for preview before posting. However, posted voicemail messages can also be listened to from any web browser.
We don't know where Twitter's direct messaging function will go, although we shouldn't be surprised if one day we find a major development that becomes the equivalent of today's mobile messaging platforms.
