On Android Auto, there are many kinds of bugs, and while those that only require a fast clearance of the stored data are the easiest to correct, the worst are definitely those that nobody can clarify. That is, not even Google.
One of them is the issue of playing the wrong song on Android Auto with Amazon Music, a glitch that will soon celebrate its first anniversary. This inexplicable problem, discovered in January 2020, is yet to be solved, despite so many users actually hitting it in their cars.
There are many drivers out there moaning about this problem, and many of them turned to this thread on the support forums of Google to provide input that was supposed to ultimately help the search giant deal with the whole thing. The business hasn't even admitted it, though, so it's pretty obvious you shouldn't really hold your breath for a patch.
“I am having this issue in my 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. I ask assistant to play ‘Let's Rock’ by the Black Keys on amazon music and she plays something that is not even close to that, every time. If I ask my Echo to play the same album, it plays fine every time,” one user explains in a summary of how Google Assistant behaves in the car and eventually plays the wrong song.
It was initially assumed that the whole thing was triggered by an Android Auto update, but after so many updates shipped last year, the culprit has yet to be found.
And, of course, there was no difference in the usual workarounds that involved things like removing cables, reinstalling Android Auto, clearing the cache and the files, and resetting everything.
In different car models and with many Android phones, including even the high-end devices of Google Pixel and Samsung, the problem occurs.
So, for the time being, while this bug is one year old now, no one can say for sure what's going on. Google still seems to have a difficult time finding out how to deal with it.
