Instagram launched reels in August 2020, the ability to create content that mimics TikTok's operating dynamics: they are videos up to 15 seconds long to which it is possible to add clips with audio, effects and various creative tools. Even though they are copied, there are still many differences between TikTok and Reels.
Since its launch Instagram has been incorporating new features to make them more similar to the TikTok user experience and also to make them one more element of the e-commerce platform on which Instagram is becoming.
In fact, Reels also allows for a few weeks the sale of products by means of a "View products" button from which the purchase process begins, which opens up many possibilities for ecommerce and social selling through the platform. In this sense, more developments and changes are expected to arrive in 2021. We anticipate some of the ones that may come in these Reel predictions for next year.

-Refine the algorithm: The Reels displayed by Instagram are selected by an algorithm that takes into account values such as the profiles that are followed or the contents that have been liked before. However, not much is known about exactly how this algorithm works. What is known is that the experience provided by the TikTok algorithm is much better, whose "For You" tab gets users hooked watching one video after another. Surely in 2021 you will do your best to achieve as much interaction as TikTok does, as that is the basis of your success: to be as addictive for users.
-Improve editing tools: TikTok's video editing tool is much more powerful than Reels', which is why from the advent of functionality on Instagram, many creators recycle their TikTok content and upload them directly to Reels. It is therefore to be expected that Instagram will improve its tool throughout 2021 to compete with the Chinese app.
-More collaboration options between creators: Continuing with the competition, TikTok has "Duet" and "stitch" two options that facilitate collaboration between creators, something reels lack, so instagram would be expected to create a tool that facilitates collaboration between creators by 2021.
-Increase duration: Reels allows you to record videos between 15 and 30 seconds, which can be scarce for certain types of content. In this sense, TikTok offers up to 60 seconds of space, so Instagram may also extend the duration of its Reels throughout 2021.
-New monetization options: In 2020, Instagram introduced several monetization options for content creators, for example by making money from live IGTV. By 2021, the platform is expected to offer some monetization system for Reels as well.

-Arrival of advertising: One of the new features that Instagram could implement throughout 2021 is an ad format for Reels. In this sense, this type of advertising would be similar to that already appeared in Stories, with a vertical format that integrates with organic content.
-Influencer marketing: Brands have already started using Reels in their influencer marketing campaigns, so this trend is expected to continue to grow throughout 2021 and some kind of functionality will be added to create branded hashtags, similar to TikTok hashtags.
