Oppo X 2021

It seemed that flexible smartphones were going to be the ones that revolutionized the mobile phone market. However, although some models have been introduced throughout 2019 and 2020, the truth is that they have not become popular and, due to their high price, are still a luxury object that only some consumers can afford.

However, it seems that Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo is already thinking of going one step further than flexible smartphones are. During this week's Info Day 2020 celebration, the brand's annual event, showing the latest developments and developments it plans to launch in the future, has shown the world several devices, beyond the newly launched Oppo Reno 4 range, but one has drawn attention to the rest.

This is the conceptual mobile X 2021. It's a prototype, it's not a final version, let alone - presumably, it'll change to the name when it's marketed - but it's a cell phone that has grabbed all eyes. Why? Because it's the world's first mobile that goes beyond having a folding screen and goes further: it's rollable and extendable.

This device does not fold and open, like flexible ones, but what it does is roll up. As if it were an "accordion" or a parchment, its screen is able to expand and contract thanks to the addition of a small motor that saves the screen in a hidden compartment. Thus, it unwinds and can go from the 6.7 inches it has in mobile format to 7.4 inches for use in tablet format.

Those are the maximum and minimum formats, but the user could adjust the screen size, if desired, to 7.1 inches, for example, so that they can handle it with one hand or both. Simply open and close the device as you please. The phone's software intelligently recognizes the measurement and adjusts automatically to take full advantage of the optimized display.

Oppo has pantheoned the device as a whole, as well as the scrolling mechanism. According to the company it will "reach the market at the right time", but it is unknown what its plans are. The fact that the coded date 2021 appears on your behalf may be an idea, but this design may not see the light in stores until 2020, who knows. At the moment, this is all that is known about it: neither possible price, nor operating system, nor specifications such as battery, RAM, processor or storage capacity are known.
