LG promises 3 years of Android updates on its smartphones despite the abandonment of its mobile division. This commitment only concerns recent and high-end smartphones of the South Korean brand. LG is also committed to offering two updates on some mid-range launched in 2020. 

To reassure fans of the brand, LG quickly pledged to continue rolling out the Android 11 update on certain smartphones. Better, LG will also offer Android 12 on phones already on the market as soon as the final version is available. So far, the promises of the brand have remained unclear.

TWO ANDROID UPDATES FOR LG MIDRANGE

In order to clarify the situation, LG released a statement on its website this Thursday, April 8, 2021. “All high-end LG smartphones currently in use will receive up to three iterations of Android operating system updates from the year of purchase ” announces LG. De facto, LG smartphones launched in 2020 under Android 11 will therefore receive Android 12 , Android 13 and Android 14 .

“The update guarantee applies to LG premium phones released in 2019 and later,” says the manufacturer. LG lists the phones of the following ranges: G series, V series, VELVET, Wing. If you bought an LG smartphone before 2019, the brand does not offer any guarantees. Finally, LG guarantees two Android updates on some mid-range launched in 2020 : the LG Stylo and K. These terminals, launched under Android 10, will not exceed Android 12.

“Security software updates will continue to be provided for some time for some devices,” promises LG without giving details. It is not known whether the updates will be rolled out monthly or every three months. We'll tell you more as soon as possible.
